The University of Texas Health Center at Tyler :: Office of the President

Dr. Kirk Calhoun
With continued community support, we will carry out our ambitious mission to serve East Texas and beyond through excellent patient care and community health, comprehensive education, and innovative research.

Welcome to The University of Texas Health Science Center at Tyler’s web site. We’re pleased that you’re here and hope you will find the information you’re looking for about our institution.

As the only UT health institution located in a rural sector of Texas, UTHSCT is focused on initiatives dealing with rural health care, which includes aging issues and care for seniors, a fast-growing segment of our East Texas population. One way we demonstrate our concern for our senior patients is with free valet parking at our newly dedicated Riter Center for Advanced Medicine, where our courteous and friendly valet personnel will park your car and return it to you when you’re ready to leave. This feature has become especially popular with our senior citizens and other patients who may be challenged by disabilities.

In addition to our 130-bed hospital, we offer a large number of clinical services all under one roof. Primary care services, approximately 30 specialties, and six Centers of Excellence comprise the wide-ranging health care UTHSCT provides. Partnerships with the following physicians’ groups complete our comprehensive approach to health care for all ages: Tyler ENT Associates, Azalea Orthopedic Services, NeuroRestorative® Services for neurological rehabilitation, Cardiovascular Associates of East Texas, Surgical Associates of East Texas and Urology Tyler, PA.

We are proud that our contribution to East Texas has been noted by a recent study documenting UTHSCT’s economic impact on the Tyler-Longview-Marshall area. In 2004, UTHSCT directly and indirectly contributed approximately $180 million and 3,517 jobs to the region.

I am confident this is only the beginning of a very bright future for UTHSCT. With continued community support, we will carry out our ambitious mission to serve East Texas and beyond through excellent patient care and community health, comprehensive education, and innovative research.
