Meet Dr. Mom
Combine a doctor’s knowledge with a mother’s touch, and you’ve got the prescription for East Texas’ own Dr. Mom!
With her down-to-earth approach to health care issues that affect you and your family, Dr. Mom - a.k.a. Dr. Barbara Huggins of UT Health Northeast - makes house calls every Thursday at 11:30am on KLTV’s mid-day show.
Dr. Barbara Huggins is the Professor of Pediatrics at UT Health Northeast, but she is also a wife, mother, and proud grandmother of twins, Sara and Ava. She understands the concerns and needs of families - from parents of infants to grandparents of many - as they seek healthy lifestyles for themselves and each other.
As Dr. Mom, she explores a wide range of health care topics, such as the best time to introduce solid food into a baby’s diet or how to care for dry winter skin. She discusses everything from the latest medical treatments for diabetes to old-fashioned, tried-and-true home remedies for a variety of ailments.
A lifelong resident of Texas, Dr. Huggins completed her doctor of medicine degree at The University of Texas Health Science Center in Houston. She is board-certified by the American Academy of Pediatrics and serves as a consultant to the Southwest Center for Pediatric Environmental Health. She is a member of the Texas Pediatric Society Committee on Infectious Diseases and Immunizations, as well as the American Academy of Pediatrics Nexus on Environmental Health.
