Biography: Dr. Dreiss was born and grew up in Austin. In college he was involved in the neighborhood clean up program in Waco. During medical school he was an officer in the Family Medicine Interest Group. In Austin Dr. Dreiss was a health and human services worker providing food, clothing and health information to the homeless.

Dr. Dreiss is very active in sports and was captain of the championship UTMB intramural soccer team. He enjoys going to the beach with his wife Brooke, a physicians assistant, and their dogs. He also likes fishing.

Following graduation Dr. Dreiss would like to practice in rural central Texas.

Chelsi Jackson

Medical School: The University of Texas Medical School at Houston

Biography: Dr. Jackson was born in San Antonio and grew up in the east Texas city of Jefferson.

During college and medical school Dr. Jackson was very busy with community outreach programs including visiting pediatric patients, and participating in a program to educate children about nutrition and obesity risk. She also gave science lessons to inner city first graders, mentored a child with reading difficulties and spoke to high school and college students about careers in medicine.

Dr. Jackson comes from a family of dentists [husband, father and brother-in-law], etc]. She is the recipient of several academic scholarships. A true east Texas girl she enjoys cooking, baking, hunting and fishing. She is famous for her Aggie cake and her ‘corvettes.’

Dustin Gentry

Dustin Gentry
University of Mississippi School of Medicine

Biography: Dr. Gentry was born in and grew up in Kosciusko, Mississippi. His work experience includes Director of Children and Youth programs at church.

Dr. Gentry has been very active in the Christian Medical and Dental Association where he organized mission trips and was part of the leadership team. He also cooked for two years at the Ronald McDonald House at St. Jude’s, volunteered at the student-run free clinic and was a martial arts instructor for the Boys and Girls Club.

Dr. Gentry is the recipient of the Gold Humanism Award. He plans to return to his home town to practice rural medicine. Dr. Gentry is also participating in the MBA program during residency. He enjoys youth ministry and music, martial arts, history, college and professional football and ultimate Frisbee.

Peter Cao

Peter Cao
Baylor College of Medicine

Biography: Dr. Cao was born and grew up in Houston. While in medical school Dr. Cao was the webmaster for the family medicine interest group. He also coordinated health fairs and counseled on preventative care. Dr. Cao is the co-author of a published journal article.

Dr. Cao has a special interest in emergency medicine and plans to practice in an underserved area. He enjoys golf, playing piano and billiards and is a member of the American Poolplayers Association.

John Davidhizar

John Davidhizar
University of Texas Medical School at Houston

Biography: Dr. Davidhizar was born in Houston. During college he worked as an EMT. He was also a summer camp nurse and camp counselor. Dr. Davidhizar’s volunteer experience includes working at orphanages in Honduras and Guatemala where he cared for orphans and helped to update the facilities.

Dr. Davidhizar enjoys attending church, spending time with his wife and son and with his extended family which includes 11 siblings! He plans to practice in a small, rural town.

Mark McDonald

Mark McDonald
University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston

Biography: Dr. McDonald was born in Virginia and grew up in West Virginia. Prior to college and medical school Dr. McDonald was an active duty Marine in Afghanistan from 1998-2002. He has also worked as a Nurse’s Aide.

During medical school Dr. McDonald mentored a 5th grade student.

Dr. McDonald joins Dr. Jeff Barstad and Dr. Jeremy Dickerson as a parent of twins. He enjoys golf, reading, weight training and rifle/piston marksmanship.

Ryan Tatum

Ryan Tatum
University of Texas Medical School at Houston

Biography: Dr. Tatum was born in Dallas and grew up in east Texas. His work experience includes violinist for the Lubbock Symphony Orchestra.

During medical school he played in the Doctor’s Orchestra of Houston, and was concertmaster for a charity band that performed music to benefit various charities in the community. Dr. Tatum was also on a committee involved in conflict resolution, and was an active member of the family medicine interest group.

Dr. Tatum is interested in working with Spanish speaking populations and is fluent in Spanish.

Richard Lowrance

Richard "Tres" Lowrance
University of Oklahoma College of Medicine

Biography: Dr. Lowrance was born and grew up in Tulsa. He worked every summer during high school and college doing everything from working on a sod farm to selling men’s clothing. He also taught English as a second language to Chinese using the bible and has been on several mission trips including Mexico where he helped build houses.

Dr. Lowrance enjoys playing soccer and running and spending time with his wife and son. He joins his sister in Tyler, who is also a family physician.
