The ACLS Renewal Course, designed in accordance with the NEW American Heart Association’s guidelines, is an intense medical education training program for healthcare professionals whose job includes the management of patients in cardiac arrest and near-arrest.
The course is designed to help participants succeed in acquiring the skills and knowledge needed to participate in resuscitation attempts.
Educational Methods
In this course, participants will enhance their skills in the treatment of arrest and peri-arrest patients through active participation in a series of simulated cardiac and respiratory cases. These simulations are designed to reinforce important concepts, including:
The Basic LIfe Support (BLS) Primary Survey
The ACLS Secondary Survey
ACLS algorithms
Effective resuscitation team dynamics
Course Completion
In order to successfully complete this course, participants must participate in and complete all learning stations, pass the 1-rescurer CPR/AED testing station, pass the Megacode testing station and pass the closed-book written test with a minimum score of 84%.
PREREQUISITES FOR ALL COURSE PARTICIPANTS
The advanced skills covered in this ACLS Renewal Course build on high-quality CPR, therefore participants must be proficient in performing BLS CPR skills using the 2005 AHA Guidelines for CPR. If you have not taken a CPR course since June 2006, you must take a CPR course before participating in this course (even if your card is not expired). In addition, course participants must have a current ACLS card.
This course will cover extensive material in a short time. You will need to prepare for the course beforehand by completing a precourse checklist that will be included with your ACLS Provider Manual. NOTE: This course does not teach algorithms, ECG, or pharmacology information. If you do not learn and understand the ECG and pharmacology information included in the precourse assessment tests, it is unlikely that you can successfuly complete the ACLS Provider Course.
Course enrollment is limited to 24.
Preregistration is required by December 15, 2006.
