MESSAGE FROM DR. JEFFREY L. LEVIN
I certainly appreciate your interest in the Occupational Medicine Training Program at the University of Texas Health Center at Tyler. Occupational Medicine is the area of specialization in preventive medicine that focuses on the relationships among the health of workers; the ability to perform work; the arrangements of work; and the physical , chemical, and social environments of the workplace. Practitioners in this field recognize that work and the environment in which work is performed can have favorable or adverse effects on the health of the workers as well as that of other populations, that the nature or circumstances of work can be arranged to protect worker health, and that health and well being in the workplace are promoted when workers’ physical attributes or limitations are accomodated in job placement.

The goal of this residency program in Occupational Medicine is to provide the academic and practicum components of training which enable the graduate to practice the speciality competently and independently.

Program Description
Residents may enter the program at the second or third post-graduate year level based upon prior training. The resident will receive a combination of didactic and supervised practical training, with a gradually increased level of responsibility leading to the independent practice of occupational medicine. The University of Texas Health Center at Tyler has been granted full accreditation by The Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education for its Occupational Medicine Residency Program. The Occupational Health Clinic is a member of the Association of Occupational and Environmental Clinics (AOEC). AOEC is a national network of clinical facilities dedicated to research and education as well as the prevention and treatment of occupational/environmental diseases.

CSS: This specification defines Cascading Style Sheets, level 2 (CSS2). CSS2 is a style sheet language that allows authors and users to attach style (e.g., fonts, spacing, and aural cues) to structured documents (e.g., HTML documents and XML applications). By separating the presentation style of documents from the content of documents, CSS2 simplifies Web authoring and site maintenance.
XHTML 1.1: This Recommendation defines a new XHTML document type that is based upon the module framework and modules defined in Modularization of XHTML [XHTMLMOD]. The purpose of this document type is to serve as the basis for future extended XHTML 'family' document types, and to provide a consistent, forward-looking document type cleanly separated from the deprecated, legacy functionality of HTML 4 [HTML4] that was brought forward into the XHTML 1.0 [XHTML1] document types. This document type is essentially a reformulation of XHTML 1.0 Strict using XHTML Modules. This means that many facilities available in other XHTML Family document types (e.g., XHTML Frames) are not available in this document type. These other facilities are available through modules defined in Modularization of XHTML, and document authors are free to define document types based upon XHTML 1.1 that use these facilities (see [XHTMLMOD] for information on creating new document types).
WAI-AAA: These guidelines explain how to make Web content accessible to people with disabilities. The guidelines are intended for all Web content developers (page authors and site designers) and for developers of authoring tools. The primary goal of these guidelines is to promote accessibility. However, following them will also make Web content more available to all users, whatever user agent they are using (e.g., desktop browser, voice browser, mobile phone, automobile-based personal computer, etc.) or constraints they may be operating under (e.g., noisy surroundings, under- or over-illuminated rooms, in a hands-free environment, etc.). Following these guidelines will also help people find information on the Web more quickly. These guidelines do not discourage content developers from using images, video, etc., but rather explain how to make multimedia content more accessible to a wide audience.
