The University of Texas Health Center at Tyler :: Celebration 2006: The A.R.T. of Healthy Living
"Celebration 2006: The ART of Healthy Living," raised more than $175,000 for UT Health Science Center’s new Aging Research and Treatment (ART) Unit, part of UTHSCT’s Center for Healthy Aging. In the ART Unit, a multi-disciplinary team of geriatricians, geriatric-trained nurse practitioners, social workers, physical therapists, occupational therapists, and pharmacists will work to maintain inpatients’ abilities to perform daily tasks by minimizing the adverse effects of procedures, tests, and medications, while helping to reduce their length of stay. | How will the A.R.T. Unit be different? - All proceeds from this year’s Celebration 2006: The Art of Healthy Living will be used to support the Aging Research and Treatment Unit. We are all affected by the challenges of the aging process, and we all want to take comfort in knowing that our loved ones have access to the best care possible. | Contact Us

Did You Know That...- Starting in 2012, nearly 10,000 Americans will turn 65 every day?
- The average 75 year old has at least three chronic conditions (i.e., high blood pressure, elevated cholesterol, diabetes, dementia, etc.) and uses five different prescription drugs?
- Out of 650,000 practicing physicians in the U.S., there are less than about 2.5 geriatricians per 10,000 elderly?
- Research shows that many complications experienced by seniors in a hospital setting such as acute confusion, immobility, weakness, malnutrition, depression, and problems caused by prescription medications can be prevented when older adults are cared for by a hospital staff with expertise in aging?
