Endocrinologist joins UT Health Center at Tyler

Omayra M. Quijano , MD, has joined The University of Texas Health Science Center at Tyler. She is an assistant professor of medicine in UTHSCT’s Center for Diabetes Care.
Dr. Quijano is board certified in endocrinology, diabetes, and metabolism. Endocrinology is the study of the glands and hormones of the body and the diseases that affect them. She specializes in treating diseases of the endocrine system, including diabetes, thyroid disease, and metabolic disorders.
Before coming to the Health Center, Dr. Quijano completed her fellowship in endocrinology at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield, Mass. She also worked as a post-doctoral research fellow at the Pennington Biomedical Research Center, which is affiliated with Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge, La.
Dr. Quijano is the newest member of the multidisciplinary team at UTHSCT’s Center for Diabetes Care. This team includes physicians, certified diabetes educators, registered nurses, dietitians, and exercise specialists. With the team approach, patients can make more informed decisions about blood sugar monitoring, meal planning, and exercise.
