James W. McKinley, MD, has been named medical director of The University Health Clinic of East Texas, a clinic operated by The University of Texas Health Science Center at Tyler. The University Health Clinic is located on the campus of The University of Texas at Tyler, at the corner of University Boulevard and Patriot Drive.

Dr. McKinley joined UTHSCT’s Department of Family Medicine as an assistant professor of medicine in fall 2004. He is board certified in family medicine and has an added qualification and a special interest in sports medicine.

“We are pleased that Dr. McKinley will be managing our beautiful new clinic for the Tyler community and UT Tyler students. His extensive experience in both family and sports medicine is a great asset for The University Health Clinic. As medical director, Dr. McKinley will oversee the operation of the clinic and its medical professionals,” said Kleanthe Caruso, UTHSCT’s vice president for patient care operations and chief nursing officer.

“The student clinic inside The University Health Clinic exists because of the collaboration with UT Tyler administrative officials and students. We are glad that our effort has resulted in this wonderful new facility,” Caruso said.

When it opens in early May, the clinic will offer services in family medicine, allergy care, rheumatology, and sports medicine, as well as services provided by the Center for Healthy Aging.

“With The University Health Clinic, UTHSCT will be able to offer the state-of-the-art health care characteristic of academic medical centers. Clinic patients will be able to access that care without worrying about too much traffic or too little parking,” Caruso said.

The 10,000-square-foot clinic has 10 exam rooms, including a procedure room. Allergy testing, radiology, and laboratory services will be provided on site.
