Free SecureCare Pulmonary Conference set for Nov. 8 in Tyler

Find out how to live better with pulmonary disease at a free “Pulmonary Conference” set for Wednesday, Nov. 8, at the Ornelas Activity Center, 3402 Old Omen Road in Tyler. Health professionals from The University of Texas Health Science Center at Tyler will talk about new treatments for pulmonary disease and how to tell the difference between allergies and asthma.

SecureCare is UTHSCT’s comprehensive program designed specifically for people age 50 plus to provide the answers and care needed in today’s health care marketplace.

Anyone interested in pulmonary disease or the other topics being discussed is welcome to attend this event, which begins at 9:30 a.m. and ends at 1:30 p.m. There will be several seminars covering different topics, as well as exhibits by area medical equipment suppliers and home health agencies, said Dexter Jones, special events coordinator at UT Health Science Center.

Seminar topics will be:

  • “Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD): The Newest Treatment Options,” presented by David Coultas, MD, UTHSCT pulmonologist;
  • “The Importance of Sleep,” by James Stocks, MD, UTHSCT pulmonologist;
  • “Recognizing Asthma vs. Allergies,” by Benoit Tano, MD, UTHSCT specialist in asthma, allergy and immunology.

Lunch will be provided, and there will be drawings for door prizes. Seating is limited, and registration is required.
