Learn how to recognize signs of stroke at a free SecureCare seminar on Oct. 10 at the Ornelas Center

Health professionals from The University of Texas Health Science Center at Tyler will explain how to be “stroke smart” at a free SecureCare seminar from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 10, at the Ornelas Center, 3402 Old Omen Road in Tyler.

SecureCare is UTHSCT’s comprehensive program designed specifically for people age 50 plus to provide the answers and care needed in today’s health care marketplace.

“Be Stroke Smart” will be presented by Dr. Angelita Tangco, a UTHSCT neurologist. She will discuss risk factors for stroke, the signs of stroke, and what to do if you think someone is having a stroke.

“Stroke Rehab: It’s Not Just Exercise” will be presented by Tom Holmes, an occupational therapist with UTHSCT Rehabilitation Services. He will describe how to recover your normal functions after a stroke and what to expect while recovering from a stroke.

Free glucose and blood pressure screenings will also be offered at the seminar, and brunch will be provided.
