Do you suffer from gallstones? Maybe you think you might have gallstones, but aren’t sure. You can have your questions answered at a free seminar sponsored by The University of Texas Health Science Center at Tyler on Tuesday, Sept. 19, in the hospital boardroom at ETMC-Gilmer, 711 N. Titus in Gilmer.

The informative seminar runs from noon until 1 p.m. and includes a complimentary lunch, said UTHSCT special events coordinator Dexter Jones.

John Aucar, MD, UTHSCT’s chief of surgery, will talk about the symptoms of gallstones and what can be done to treat them, Jones said. Dr. Aucar is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, a Fellow of the International College of Surgeons, a Diplomate of the National Board of Medical Examiners, and is board certified in surgery.

Gallstones can cause serious problems if they become trapped in the bile ducts. Symptoms of gallstones include:

  • steady pain in the upper abdomen that increases rapidly and lasts from 30 minutes to several hours;
  • pain in the back between the shoulder blades;
  • pain under the right shoulder; and
  • nausea or vomiting.

Seating for the seminar is limited and reservations are required. To register for the seminar, call (903) 877-5122.
