Free SecureCare Arthritis Health Fair set for Aug. 8 in Tyler

Find out how to live better with arthritis at a free “Arthritis Health Fair” set for Tuesday, Aug. 8, at the Ornelas Activity Center, 3402 Old Omen Road in Tyler. Health professionals from The University of Texas Health Science Center at Tyler will talk about how people with arthritis can improve their quality of life.

SecureCare is UTHSCT’s comprehensive program designed specifically for people age 50 plus to provide the answers and care needed in today’s health care marketplace.

The event runs from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. and includes several seminars covering different topics, as well as exhibits by area medical equipment suppliers, said Debra Davis, manager of senior services at UT Health Science Center.

Seminar topics will be:

“Tools to Improve Quality of Life,” presented by Tom Holmes, UTHSCT occupational therapist;

“The Effect of Diet on Arthritis,” by Regina Bonnette, UTHSCT dietitian;

“Arthritis Treatments,” by Roger Porter, MD, UTHSCT rheumatologist;

“Tips to Improve Mobility and Function,” by Celia Pechak, UTHSCT physical therapist; and

“Updates on Arthritis Medications,” by Joe Sartor, UTHSCT pharmacist.

Lunch will be provided, and there will be drawings for door prizes. Seating is limited, and registration is required.
