Jason Rounds, executive director of the medical services, research, and development plan at The University of Texas Health Science Center at Tyler, has been named presidential chief of staff.
“With his knack for organization and his understanding of Health Center priorities, he is an excellent fit for this position,” said UTHSCT President Dr. Kirk A. Calhoun.
Rounds said, “The position serves as a key resource for the president and the executive team to help manage institutional priorities, strategic projects, tasks, and relationships.
“A key finding during the reorganization was a need to develop and implement a formal strategic plan. One of my primary tasks will be to spearhead this process. Such a plan will provide the Health Center with a road map for the next three to 10 years,” Rounds said.
“I’m very enthusiastic about the opportunity to work with our senior leadership in this new role,” he said. Along with his new duties, Rounds will continue to oversee the MSRDP.
Rounds joined UTHSCT in June 2004. Before coming to the Health Center, he was executive director of the University of New Mexico Health Sciences Center. Rounds also has served as manager of health services contracting at The University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston.
He has a master’s in business administration from the Frost School of Business at Centenary College in Shreveport, and a bachelor’s in health care sciences with a diploma in health care administration from the School of Allied Health Sciences at UTMB.
In addition, Rounds is a certified health care financial professional through the Healthcare Financial Management Association and received his certificate in health care ethics from the UNM Health Sciences Ethics Program. He is a member of the American College of Healthcare Executives.
