The University of Texas Health Science Center at Tyler has named Albert Esparsen, II, as the new director for clinical operations.

As director, Esparsen oversees the operations of UTHSCT outpatient clinics.

Esparsen comes to the Health Center after two years of managing a startup company in Roswell, N.M., that provided administrative operational support to physician practices.

“Mr. Esparsen is experienced in forming and managing health care teams, which are essential for providing optimal care for patients with chronic illnesses. His expertise is a great fit for helping our multi-specialty physician practice create a great academic clinic,” said David Coultas, MD, vice president for Clinical Affairs and physician in chief at UTHSCT.

From 1999 until 2005, Esparsen was director of District IV of New Mexico’s Department of Health/Public Health Division in Roswell.

In that position he supervised a staff of 172 professional, medical, and clerical personnel and administered an operating budge of about $15 million.

He also collaborated with the University of New Mexico Medical School Residency Program to provide sites for residents.

“The Health Center is committed to continually improving patient care and customer service, to moving to the next level of performance. It’s a very exciting time to be here and to be part of this initiative,” Esparsen said.

Esparsen has a Master of Public Administration from Texas Tech University.

He has a Bachelor of Public Health from New Mexico State University, where in 2001 he was honored as a distinguished alumnus of the College of Health and Social Services.
