Flu shots are now available to the public in the multi-specialty clinic at The University of Texas Health Science Center at Tyler. The clinic is on the fourth floor of the Riter Center for Advanced Medicine at UTHSCT, 11937 U.S. Highway 271 in Tyler.

Flu shots are offered to the public at the following times:

  • Tuesdays: 10 a.m.-noon and 1 p.m.-3 p.m.
  • Wednesdays: 10 a.m.-noon and 1 p.m.-3 p.m.
  • Fridays: 8 a.m.-noon and 1 p.m.-4 p.m.

The cost is $30 per vaccination, and no appointment is necessary. Immunizations will be given at no cost to individuals enrolled in Medicare, if they have their Medicare card.

The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends that individuals at increased risk for complications from the flu be vaccinated annually.

These include individuals 50 years of age or older, children from 6 months to 5 years of age or older who have chronic heart or lung conditions such as asthma, residents of nursing homes or long-term care facilities that house people with long-term illnesses, adults and children who have chronic health conditions, and women who are more than three months pregnant during flu season.

In addition, household contacts and caregivers of adults and children at high risk for the flu and health-care workers should be vaccinated, the CDC says.
