Medical professionals from UTHCT promote healthy reading habits during Tyler Public Library’s story time

Physicians and nurses from The University of Texas Health Science Center at Tyler will read aloud to children at the Tyler Public Library’s story times during “Read With Your Doctor Week,” July 25-28.

The health care professionals will read from age-appropriate books with a medical theme, said Cindy Sharp, MSLS (master of science in library science), outreach librarian with UTHSCT’s Watson W. Wise Medical Research Library.

UTHSCT professionals who will read to children are Barbara Huggins, MD, professor and chair of the Department of Pediatrics; Susan Barrows, MD, assistant professor of pediatrics; Eric Beadle, MD, family medicine resident; Vickie Butler, MD, assistant professor of pediatrics; Tracey Kurtzman, MD, assistant professor of pediatrics; Jenny Saurette, MD, family medicine resident; Janet Seliga, RN, BSN (bachelor of science in nursing), Nursing Education; Lauri Thomas, RN, BSN, Department of Surgery; Allison Tobola, MD, family medicine resident; and Donna Walker, RN, Nursing Education.

The Tyler Public Library and UTHSCT’s Wise Medical Research Library are sponsoring the week of medically themed story hours. The readings will be held Monday, July 25, through Thursday, July 28, in the Library Auditorium.
