Free UTHSCT-sponsored seminar on diabetes set for Thursday, Jan. 24, at Gilmer National Bank in Gilmer

GILMER – Are you at high risk for developing diabetes? What are the complications of diabetes? How do you avoid them?

The answers to these and many other questions will be provided at “Diabetes Basics,” a free seminar scheduled for 9:30 a.m.-11:30 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 24, at the Gilmer National Bank, 900 N. Wood in Gilmer.

David Shafer, MD, and dietitian Karla Wallace of UTHSCT’s Center for Diabetes Care will outline the risk factors for diabetes and offer ways to help you avoid developing the chronic disease.

They will talk about how diet can affect diabetes and discuss what your blood sugar numbers really mean.

Free glucose screenings will be available beginning at 9:30 a.m., with presentations starting at 10 a.m.

The health education seminar is free, but seating is limited and reservations are required. Refreshments will be provided.
