Learn the warning signs of heart, lung problems at Heart and Lung Seminar set for Aug. 26 in Gladewater

Do you know the risk factors for developing heart disease or breathing problems? Find out what they are at a free seminar from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 26, at the Gladewater Former Students Building, 2509 W. Hendricks in Gladewater.

The Heart and Lung Seminar, sponsored by The University of Texas Health Science Center at Tyler, will start off with free cholesterol and blood pressure screenings from 8 a.m. to 9 a.m. Free pulmonary risk assessments also will be offered.

After the screenings, two UTHSCT physicians will discuss cardiac risk factors and shortness of breath. Dudley Goulden, MD, a cardiologist and UTHSCT professor of medicine, will present “Cardiac Risk Factors - What You Really Need to Know.” He will talk about what you can do to lower your risk of developing cardiovascular disease. Dr. Goulden will outline what high cholesterol is and how to lower it, and describe how much exercise will help keep your heart in shape.

David B. Coultas, MD, a pulmonologist and chairman of the division of medicine, will present “Shortness of Breath - What Could it Mean?” Dr. Coultas will explain what conditions can cause shortness of breath and describe how physicians evaluate someone with shortness of breath.
