U.S. Rep. Louie Gohmert to visit UTHCT to discuss possible VA nursing home

U.S. Rep. Louie Gohmert, R-Tyler, will visit The University of Texas Health Science Center at Tyler from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 24.
Rep. Gohmert will attend a lunch hosted by UTHSCT President Dr. Kirk A. Calhoun to discuss the possibility of having a Veterans Administration nursing home located on the UTHSCT campus. Other topics for discussion include an update about the planned Biomedical Research Park located next to the Health Center and the progress of UTHSCT’s Center for Healthy Aging.
Other officials at the luncheon will include State Rep. Leo Berman, R-Tyler; Smith County Judge Becky Dempsey; and former state Rep. Dr. Bob Glaze. Mike Conner, director of the Smith County Veterans Affairs Office, also will attend.
Rep. Gohmert will tour the new wing of UTHSCT’s Center for Biomedical Research before the luncheon begins.
Rep. Gohmert, Dr. Calhoun, and other officials will be available for brief interviews after the luncheon, from 1:10 p.m. to 1:30 p.m.
