Don’t miss Gladewater’s 26th Annual Gusher Gallop 2011 scheduled for Saturday, April 16

GLADEWATER – The 26th Annual Gusher Gallop 2011 will be held Saturday, April 16, during East Texas Gusher Days.

The 5K Run/Walk and Kid K Fun Run is sponsored by The University of Texas Health Science Center at Tyler and Gym 101 Fitness Center in Gladewater. The races and walks will begin and end at Gym 101, 500 Allison St.

The deadline for early registration is 4 p.m. Friday, April 15; the early registration fee for the 5K is $10. The Kid K Fun Run is free, and each child who finishes the race will receive a ribbon. The two children’s age categories are birth to 5 years of age and 6 to 10 years of age.

The registration/waiver form and fee must be returned to UT Physicians of Gladewater, 711 Lee St. or GYM 101 Fitness Center. Please make checks payable to East Texas Gusher Days. Fees are non-refundable.

Race day registration for the 5K costs $15 and begins at 7:30 a.m. Saturday, April 16. The registration fee includes a T-shirt for the first 100 registrants, and a goodie bag for all 5K participants. Maps of the course and light refreshments also will be available on Saturday.

For the 5K, children younger than 10 must be accompanied by an adult. Trophies will be awarded to the top male and female winners overall. In addition, the top male and female winners in each age category will receive a trophy. The 5K age categories are: 11-15 years, 16-20 years, 21-25 years, 26-30 years, 31-35 years, 36-40 years, 41-45 years, 46-50 years, 51-55 years, 56-60 years, and 65 years of age or older.

A warm-up led by UT Health Science Center and Gym 101 will be held at 7:30 a.m. The Kid K Fun Run will begin at 7:45 a.m., with the 5K Run/Walk starting at 8 a.m.

Proceeds from the race will go to the Gusher Days Scholarship Fund. The annual East Texas Gusher Days Festival commemorates Gladewater’s history as an oil boom town, which began April 7, 1931, when the city’s first oil well came in.
