Theodore I. Gould, MD, MBA, has been appointed as the new chief of staff at The University of Texas Health Science Center at Tyler. Dr. Gould has been medical director of the Emergency Care Center at UTHSCT since fall 2004.

"Dr. Gould has done a terrific job since joining UTHSCT as medical director of the Emergency Care Center. He will serve our medical staff and the institution well, given his previous experience and leadership in the community," said UTHSCT President Dr. Kirk A. Calhoun. Dr. Gould joined UTHSCT after 14 years with the Trinity Mother Frances Health System.

"I am delighted to have been appointed to the position of chief of staff following the retirement of Dr. Kenwyn G. Nelson, who gave many years of service to the Health Center," Dr. Gould said.

"I look forward to representing the medical staff’s interests with the governing body and administration of the Health Center, and keeping each group informed about issues of mutual concern. My initial focus will be on quality improvement, credentialing, and hospital issues that impact the medical staff," Dr. Gould said.

Dr. Gould is board certified in emergency medicine and has a master’s degree in business administration in health care from the University of Houston, Clear Lake. He received his medical degree from the University of Toronto, Ontario, Canada.
