AARP Driver Safety Course to be offered Dec. 12-13 at the Ornelas Activity Center in Tyler

The AARP Driver Safety Course will be offered from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday, Dec. 12, and continues at the same time on Tuesday, Dec. 13, at the Ornelas Activity Center, 3204 Old Omen Road in Tyler.

The two-day course is part of a series of educational Town Hall Meetings held on the second Tuesday of each month at the Ornelas Activity Center, which is operated by The University of Texas Health Science Center at Tyler. The sessions are designed to provide timely information on topics of interest to senior citizens.

The driver safety course will discuss how to:
  • Adjust for changes in vision, hearing, and reaction time;
  • Handle problem situations;
  • Properly use anti-lock brakes, air bags, and safety belts; and
  • Assess individuals’ driving abilities

Participants must have a valid driver’s license. There is no age limit for the course, and AARP membership is not required. Auto insurance discounts for taking this course are available in most states. To determine if an individual qualifies for the discount, contact an insurance agent.
