Scope of Services
Types and ages of patients served: Outpatients, 6 months to geriatric.
Hours of operation: 7:30 A.M. to 4:00 P.M. Monday through Friday. 8:00 P.M. to 6:00 A.M. Monday night through Saturday night.
Description of services provided in the department: The Center for Sleep Disorders is a four bed sleep center that provides complete polysomnographic testing for assessment and treatment of sleep disorders that include but are not limited to: Obstructive Sleep Apnea, Central Sleep Apnea, therapeutic interventions for sleep apnea (typically CPAP or BiPAP), Narcolepsy, Periodic limb movement disorders, multiple sleep latency testing, positive airway pressure support services and outside educational activities.
The appropriateness, clinical necessity, and timeliness of support services provided directly by the department or through referral contacts: All members of the Center for Sleep Disorders provide diagnostic, therapeutic, and support services for Health Science Center patients. Test results are reviewed and tabluated for physician review and interpretation in a timely manner.
The extent to which the level of care or service provided meets the patient’s needs: Assessment made by chart review and questionnaires designed to identify various sleep disorders. Patient’s follow up compliance with prescribed therapy is augmented by CPAP clinic.
Recognized standards or practice guidelines: Registered polysomnographers are credentialed by the Board of Registered Polysomnographic Technologists. Additional recognized standards and guidelines are provided by the APT (Association of Polysomnographic Technologists) and the AASM (American Academy of Sleep Medicine).
Desired outcome: Our goal is to provide quality testing while educating the patient and family members on their sleep disorder and the prescribed therapeutic intervention.
