How to Volunteer
The success of clinical trials depends upon the participation of patients who volunteer. We at the Center for Clinical Research consider all of our volunteers "HEROS" for without the generous contribution of time and effort by volunteers new drugs would not be approved by the FDA.
Participants in clinical trials can play a more active role in their own health care, gain access to new research treatments before they are widely available, and help others by contributing to medical research.
Clinical trials try to enroll people who are alike in certain, ways depending on the studies purpose. Every protocol (study plan) tells who can join that study and spells out the characteristics that people should have. These are called eligibility criteria.
Eligibility criteria are a key part of medical research. They help produce results. They can also help protect you. They help make sure that if you are likely to be harmed by something in the study design, you are not exposed to that risk.
