PULMONARY/LUNG

Alpha 1 Antitrypsin Deficiency (680)
This study will assemble a total of 400 families with at least one pair of adult PI ZZ siblings, and to assess COPD-related phenotypes in these families including spirometry, bronchodilator responsiveness, and chronic bronchitis.

Alpha 1 Antitrypsin Deficiency (781)
This study is designed to assess the safety and effectiveness of alpha1-proteinase inhibitor (A1-PI) as compared to placebo (an inactive substance) administered by intravenous application to patients with alpha1-proteinase deficiency and emphysema.

Asthma (796)
The purpose of this research study is to assess the effectiveness of Xolair (omalizumab; formerly called olizumab) in people with asthma who still have symptoms despite treatment with high-dose inhaled corticosteroids and long-acting beta agonists (ICS + LABA).

COPD (812)
The purpose of this study is to find out whether patients treated with tiotropium inhaled from the Respimat® have fewer COPD exacerbations over a one-year period when compared with patients receiving other treatments.

CARDIOLOGY/HEART

A-Fib/A-Flutter (756)
The primary purpose of this study is to evaluate if dronedarone, at a dose of 400 mg twice daily, can reduce hospitalizations for cardiovascular reasons and the risk for death in subjects with a history of atrial fibrillation or atrial flutter and who are 70 years of age or older and/or who have additional risk factors. The secondary purpose is to assess the safety and tolerability of dronedarone in this group of subjects.

Congestive Heart Failure (CHF) (798)
The purpose of this research study is to evaluate the effectiveness of an approved drug called darbepoetin alfa (Aranesp®) compared to placebo (an inactive substance) for the treatment of low red blood cell count (anemia) associated with chronic heart failure.

Acute Coronary Syndrome (ACS) (814)
This study is being carried out to see if an investigational medicine called AZD6140, is effective in stopping the formation of new blood clots in subjects who have had an acute coronary syndrome (called ACS which is a heart attack or very severe chest pain) and have a higher risk of blood clot formation than other people.
