Employment Overview

The Employment Services Department works closely with other Health Science Center departments to attract and retain qualified applicants by matching their career needs and capabilities with job vacancies, fostering equal opportunity for all persons involved with the Health Science Center, and promoting diversity through specific affirmative actions. Its activities help create an environment in which each individual’s contribution is valued. Responsibilities include position advertisement; application screening and tracking; consultation, research and application of laws, regulations, and policies; development of employment opportunity activities; promotion of affirmative action in business practices; participation in funding for affirmative action and diversity; resolution of complaints and case processing; collection and analysis of data; processing and coordination of immigration issues and I9s; and creation of linkages with other UT System components and community resources. It is the goal of the Department of Human Resources to support the implementation of diversity at all levels of the Health Science Center.

Security Sensitive Positions:
All positions are security-sensitive and thereby subject to the provisions of Texas Education Code §51.215. Applicants that are offered employment must undergo a criminal history background investigation.

Verification of Required Education:
If you are applying for a vacancy which requires technical schooling or college, you must provide documentation relating to the college course(s), degree(s) or certificate(s) you hold. Such documentation shall include copies of official or unofficial transcripts. Copies of diplomas/certificates or other verification from the college or university may be accepted.

Pre-Employment Drug Screening, Post Offer, Pre-Placement Medical Questionnaire and Exam
All applicants offered employment at The University of Texas Health Science Center at Tyler will be required to participate in a pre-employment drug screening (urinalysis). Refusal to consent to a drug screening assessment will result in withdrawal of the employment offer. Applicants must also complete a medical questionnaire and undergo a medical exam, if needed, after contingent job offer is extended.

Information Laws and Practices:
With few exceptions, you are entitled on your request to be informed about the information The University of Texas Health Science Center at Tyler collects about you. Under Sections 552.021 and 552.023 of the Texas Government Code, you are entitled to receive and review the information. Under Section 559.004 of the Texas Government Code, you are entitled to have UTHSCT correct information about you that is
held by us and that is incorrect, in accordance with the procedures set forth in The University of Texas System Business Procedures Memorandum 32. The information that UTHSCT collects will be retained and maintained as required by Texas records retention laws (Section 441.180 et seq. of the Texas Government Code) and rules. Different
types of information are kept for different periods of time.
