The Center for Medicare and Medicaid (CMS) and JCAHO Core measures utilize nationally recognized guidelines for the care and treatment of Acute MI, Pneumonia, Heart Failure and Surgical Care Infection Prevention. The University of Texas Health Care Center at Tyler participates in the use of the guidelines and collection of data for these measures and is reported to the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services.

UTHSCT participates in the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association’s program Get With The Guidelines for Coronary Artery Disease. On September 14, 2006, UTHSCT was one of 118 hospitals receiving a performance achievement award for improving coronary artery disease outcomes. UTHSCT signed an agreement in December 2006 to participate in Get With The Guidelines heart failure module and is currently working toward qualification for the performance achievement award for improving heart failure outcomes.
