Quality & Patient Safety
Committed to delivering the BEST care possible
The Center for Medicare and Medicaid (CMS) and The Joint Commission (TJC) Core Measures utilize nationally recognized guidelines for the care and treatment of specific diseases. UTHSCT participates in the use of these guidelines by collecting and reporting data for the following measures: Acute MI, Pneumonia, Heart Failure, Surgical Care Improvement Project, Hospital Outpatient Surgery, and Acute MI/Chest Pain in the Emergency Department.
UTHSCT participated in the American Heart Association’s Get With The Guidelines program, winning achievement awards for three consecutive years in the treatment of both heart failure and coronary artery disease.
In 2010, HealthGrades awarded UTHSCT the Pulmonary Care Excellence Award, rating us in the top 10% in the nation for pulmonary care. UTHSCT also received five-star ratings for the treatment of Pneumonia and Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD). Hospitals receiving five-star ratings have mortality and/or complication rates below the national average.
HealthGrades awarded UTHSCT the 2009-2010 Outstanding Patient Experience Award for providing exemplary service to patients. This award is based on data from the Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems Survey. UTHSCT was one of only 31 hospitals in Texas and 340 hospitals in the nation to receive this award
UTHSCT is fully accredited by The Joint Commission after having a very successful triennial survey in December 2009.
The University of Texas Health Science Center is committed to efforts that will deliver the BEST care to our patients.
