Volunteer Opportunities


Our volunteers come to us with a wide variety of experience and talents. We make every effort to ensure that they are given positions that suit their skills as well as their personalities. Below are a few of the opportunities you can enjoy as a UTCHT volunteer.

Floor Host - offer magazines and books to patients; deliver fresh ice water and mail

Patient Transportation - transport patients needing wheelchair assistance to appropriate clinics; deliver patient records, lab reports, specimens and clinic prescriptions

Guess Services/Information Desk - support UTHSCT staff members; answer phone; escort patients and/or vendors; field questions from visitors

Gift Shop - help customers; operate cash register; create floral and balloons arrangements; and assist with the cleanliness of the shop

Departmental Staff Support - perform clerical duties and run errands for a particular clinic or department

ICU/Surgery Waiting Room - provide a vital communication link from Health Science Center staff to family members; deliver messages; maintain fresh coffee and supplies

Hospice - provide non-medical support services as needed to home care patients, nursing home facility patients, inpatient facility, in accordance with patient’s plan of care

Hospitality Cart - serve complimentary beverages to the patients and guests in the outpatient or inpatient waiting rooms

Reach Out & Read - Read to children in the waiting rooms of the Pediatric Clinic. Prominent times are from 10:30 - 11:30 in the mornings and 2:30 - 4:00 in the afternoons. Books are provided. Patience and a willingness to share a book with a child is the key to this task.

Research - aid doctors, lab technicians, and other staff members with specific projects

Outside Projects - make tray favors, lap robes, and other assorted gifts for patients; knit or sew caps for onlcology patients.

Junior Volunteers - Young people ages 14 to 18 may volunteer at the Health Science Center during the summer during a specific time.
