TEXAS ASTHMA CAMP FOR KIDS
GENERAL INFORMATION

CAMPER ARRIVAL
A directional map is included on the last page of General Information. Campers are to arrive between 2 and 3 p.m. on Sunday the week of camp. Parents/ Guardians are requested to leave the camp as soon as the camper is settled into his or her cabin. If for some reason you are unable to arrive during this time, you will need to make arrangements with us at least 5 days prior to the start of camp.

CAMPER PICK UP
ALL CAMPERS MUST BE PICKED UP AT 2 P.M. ON FRIDAY.

MEDICATIONS
Each child must bring a seven-day supply of his/her current medications to camp. The medical staff will take charge of these items at registration and will handle all medical routines during the week of camp. Be sure all inhalers are full. NO allergy shots will be given at camp. Nebulizers will be provided, so it will not be necessary for you to bring one.

If your child has been diagnosed with Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD or ADHD) and is on medication during the school year, he/she will need to remain on this medication during camp. Failure to comply with this request may mean that your child will be sent home should behavior become a problem.

PHONE CALLS
Please do not call your child at camp or ask them to call you unless there is an emergency. This may be difficult for you, but we have found from past experience that children rarely get homesick unless they talk to their parents on the phone and often one homesick child triggers homesickness among the other children. If you are anxious to know how your child is doing, please feel free to call the camp and ask to speak with the Camp Director, the Medical Director, or the Nurse Director. Thank you for your cooperation!

EMERGENCY PHONE NUMBERS:
Office (903) 262-1225
Kitchen (903) 262-1259
Clinic (903) 262-1274

MAIL

Children at camp LOVE to get mail. Please write to your child a few days before camp and at the beginning of the camp session. This will contribute to the wonderful camping experience of your child. There is nothing worse than for everyone else to get mail but your child. We are amazed that some parents ignore this. If you are worried you might forget, just bring a letter with you to registration, and we will see that your child gets it during camp.

LUGGAGE
Please pack all belongings in ONE large suitcase, trunk, or duffel bag. Be sure to label all items (including luggage) with the camper’s name.

The camp WILL NOT be responsible for lost items. Be sure and look through the Lost-and-Found box on the front porch of the Main Lodge when you come to pick your child up. Any items left at the end of camp will be given to charity.

OTHER ITEMS

Please DO NOT bring: Water Balloons, Shaving Cream, Candy,
Gum, Electronic Games, Jewelry, Money, Cell Phones

If these items should come with the camper, they will be removed and locked in the office for the duration of camp and returned at the end of the session.

LAUNDRY
There is NO laundry service. If there is a tendency for your child to use extra clothing or bedding, please send it with your child to camp.

HORSEBACK RIDING
You will need to send a pair of long pants that your child can wear during the horseback riding activity. It’s on the list of things to bring. If your child is allergic to horses, you MUST indicate that on the medical form.

DISCIPLINE POLICIES
The staff expects that each camper will be well behaved, as the camp is designed for everyone to have a good time. We would regret very much having to send anyone home.

Any camper misbehaving will be warned twice before being sent to talk with the Camp Director. A second trip to the Camp Director means a trip home, regardless of the time of day or night.

In addition, NO behavior that is damaging to the camp facility or dangerous to any camper or staff member will be tolerated. This will result in immediate dismissal from camp (again, regardless of the time of day or night). Please discuss this policy with your child.
