Welcome to The University of Texas at Tyler Health Science Center (HSC) Cardiovascular Diseases Fellowship Program! In August, 2023 our training program will welcome its first class of fellows into the program. We are a rapidly growing institution and we are proud to welcome this fellowship as one of the newest additions to our graduate medical education training programs. In addition to the recent merger between the health science center and The University of Texas at Tyler, we are expecting the opening of a new medical school in 2023.
Our program’s mission is to develop leaders in cardiovascular disease care for the East Texas community, primarily through advanced and systematic education of fellows and faculty. The program is focused on caring for all levels of cardiovascular care in the community by continuing to be the preferred reference service for cardiology care in the East Texas region.
Like the university, Tyler is a growing city with urban amenities and a small-town feel. Tyler is known for its rose industry, parks, and area lakes. We have our own symphony orchestra and a variety of venues for food and live music. The Texas Rose Horse Park and Caldwell Zoo provide plenty of opportunities for equestrians and animal lovers. Also, being an hour and a half away from Dallas, we have access to big events without the expense and traffic!
Thank you for taking the time to learn about our program. I hope that you will take the opportunity to see for yourself why our program truly is a special place to train.
Sincerely,
Raul Torres-Heisecke, MD, FHRS
Program Director
