Biography

Dr. Karan P. Singh is a professor and chair of the Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics in the School of Medicine at the Health Science Center at UT Tyler. Before joining, he was a professor in the Department of Medicine’s Division of Preventive Medicine at the University of Alabama at Birmingham and director of the Biostatistics and Bioinformatics Shared Facility at the University of Alabama at Birmingham O’Neal Comprehensive Cancer Center. During his tenure at UAB, Dr. Singh was a senior scientist at the O’Neal Comprehensive Cancer Center, the Comprehensive Diabetes Center, the Center for Outcomes and Effectiveness Research and Education, the Center for Exercise Medicine and the Comprehensive Center for Healthy Aging. He also served as a professor in the Department of Biostatistics in the School of Public Health at UAB and directed the Graduate Programs in Biostatistics.

Dr. Singh was a professor and chair of the Department of Biostatistics in the School of Public Health at the University of North Texas Health Science Center and directed the School’s PhD Program in Public Health Sciences. At various times during his tenure, Dr. Singh took on the additional responsibility of serving as interim chair of the Department of Health Management and Policy, the Department of Epidemiology, and the Department of Social and Health Behavior.

Dr. Singh has over 30 years of experience of collaboration with investigators in inter- and multi-disciplinary and translational research on many research projects funded by NIH and other institutions. He has authored and coauthored numerous peer reviewed publications in high impact journals including American Journal of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine, Annals of Surgery, Clinical Cancer Research, Annals of the Rheumatic Diseases, Clinical and Translational Medicine, European Journal of Cancer, American Journal of Public Health, Environmental Health Perspectives, Journal of Clinical Investigation Insight, American Journal of Preventive Medicine, British Journal of Cancer, Environment International, Annals of the American Thoracic Society, Environmental Research, Macromolecules, Helicobacter, Lung Cancer, Molecular Cancer Therapeutics, Annals of Family Medicine, Cellular Physiology and Biochemistry, Gynecologic Oncology and American Journal of Physiology-Heart and Circulatory Physiology.

Dr. Singh has served as PI, Co-PI, Co-I, Chief Biostatistician and Core Director at various research centers and on multi-million-dollar grants, supporting projects by providing innovative statistical approaches, statistical consultation and database management in compliance with NIH and FDA regulations. Throughout his career, Dr. Singh has collaborated on numerous funded grants and contracts, including NCI-NIH program projects (P01), centers (P30), Specialized Programs of Research Excellence (SPORE, P50), as well as U- and R-series grants and other grants. Research projects have benefited from his methodological contributions to longitudinal data analysis and developing methods for designing and monitoring of multiple outcomes in studies including clinical trials. The track record of the outcomes from these funded grants has had significantly high impact through the years. Dr. Singh served on the NCI Gynecologic Cancer Steering Committee and the NCI GCSC Cervical Task Force. As Chair and/or a member, Dr. Singh has served on numerous Data and Safety Monitoring Boards, External Advisory Boards and Scientific Study Sections of NIH and other funding agencies.

Dr. Singh is an elected fellow of the American Statistical Association, the Modeling and Simulation Society of Australia and New Zealand and the Indian Society for Medical Statistics. He is an elected member of the International Statistical Institute and an editor and associate editor on multiple scientific journal editorial boards.
