Dr. Gerald Ledlow Named Dean of UT Health Science Center at Tyler
School of Community and Rural Health

Tyler, TX – Officials with The University of Texas Health Science Center at Tyler announced that Gerald (Jerry) R. Ledlow, Ph.D., MHA, FACHE, has been named permanent Dean of the School of Community and Rural Health. He has served as interim dean since October 2017.

The school offers a master’s degree in public health, and will soon offer a master’s degree in health administration.

Dr. Kirk Calhoun, president of UT Health Science Center at Tyler, and Chairman of the Board of UT Health East Texas, said Dr. Ledlow’s extensive experience and leadership are important for the university and the health system.

“Dr. Ledlow’s three decades of academic leadership and management in military, corporate, educational, and academic programs are a great asset for our students and for the patients we serve throughout the region,” said Dr. Calhoun. “The School of Community and Rural Health is expanding. As we educate the healthcare professionals of tomorrow, Dr. Ledlow is not only responsible for our degree programs that lead to career opportunities in public health, he also heads the educational outreach that will lead to healthier East Texans through our health system, UT Health East Texas.”

Dr. Ledlow served as the professor and chair of health policy and management at Georgia Southern University. He received his doctorate in organizational leadership and development from the University of Oklahoma and his master’s degree in healthcare system administration from Baylor University.

He served in several capacities in the United States Army, including from 1995 to 1998 as the regional vice president and director for managed care operations, Department of Defense, Military Health System.

Dr. Ledlow is a Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives.
