Are you ACGME accredited?

Yes, we are accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) as a 5 – year general surgery training program

How do I submit my application?

We accept applications through ERAS.

Will you be offering virtual Interviews?

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we will conduct all interviews virtually via Microsoft Teams.

What is the application deadline?

Our deadline for applications is December 31st.

Do you require prior US clinical Experience?

Prior US clinical experience is preferred but not required

Can I select my interview date?

We do offer flexible scheduling through ERAS where an applicant can select any available date or can request to be added to the wait-list.

What if I cannot make it on my interview date or need to change dates?

Please notify our office by ERAS, phone, or email as soon as possible if a scheduling change needs to be made.

What will the virtual interview day look like?

We will hold 2 separate sessions each interview day morning (7:45-12) and afternoon (12:45-5), you will only attend one session. Each applicant will have 4 faculty interviews, which will include the program director. You will be able to interact with current residents between interviews.

Will the Program allow Moonlighting?

We do allow moonlighting PGY 3 -5.

How many Residents does your Program accept?

We have 3 categorical PGY1 positions each year for a full complement of 15 residents. We currently do not offer preliminary positions but plan to in the future.

Where will my rotations be located?

  • UT Health Tyler (Primary site)
  • UT Health Science Center at Tyler
  • UT Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas (Burns, Transplant and Pediatrics)
  • UT Health Jacksonville (Colorectal Surgery)

Do you offer an employment benefits package?

Yes, in conjunction with UT System benefits

Do you accept foreign graduates?

 Yes, (Need to complete step 1 and step 2 and ECGMG certified)

Does your program sponsor Visas? If yes, what type?

Yes, our program sponsors J-1 visas. We are unable to sponsor an H1 visa.

Do you accept Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine graduates?

Yes, we accept both MDs and DOs

Do you accept COMLEX?
