Internal Medicine Tyler Residency FAQ

Are you ACGME accredited?

Yes, we are accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education as a three-year categorical internal medicine training program.

How do I submit my application?

We accept applications only through ERAS.

What is the application deadline?

Our deadline for applications is Dec. 31, 2023.

Does the program accept applicants outside of the NRMP match?

No, the program participates only in the NRMP match and does not accept applicants outside of the match.

Do you accept international medical graduate applications?

Our institution does accept J1 Visa applicants but does not sponsor H1B or other Visas.

Will you be offering virtual interviews?

We will offer only virtual interviews this year.

Are there opportunities to visit and tour in person?

Optional preview days will be offered during the interview season where applicants can meet with faculty and residents as well as tour the facilities.

What days are interviews and preview days conducted?

Interviews are held on Tuesday and Friday afternoons during the interview season. The optional preview days are held on Saturdays.

Can I select my Interview and Preview Day dates?

All interviews will be scheduled through ERAS where applicants can select any available dates. You can also select to wait-list for specific interview dates, if needed, through ERAS. Preview day dates are scheduled through the program.

What will the virtual interview day look like?

The virtual interview day will begin at noon and last until 5 p.m. You will interview with one faculty member and either the program director or associate program director.  You will interact with program leadership and our current residents with time for questions.

What if I cannot make it on my interview date or need to change dates?

Please notify our office by ERAS, phone or email as soon as possible if a scheduling change needs to be made.

Will the program allow moonlighting?

We do allow moonlighting opportunities for our PGY3 residents after they have met all program requirements and have obtained a Texas medical license.

How many residents does your program accept each year?

We accept 20 positions per year for a full complement of 60 residents.

  • UT Health East Texas Tyler (primary site)
  • UT Tyler Health Science Center (specialty clinics)
  • Family Circle of Care – West Gentry Health Center (continuity clinic)
  • Community Specialty Facilities

Do you offer an employment benefits package?

Yes, in conjunction with UT System benefits.

Is your program affiliated with any fellowships currently?

Yes, our program is  associated with The University of Texas at Tyler fellowships in hospice & palliative care; cardiovascular disease; gastroenterology; nephrology; hematology & oncology and pulmonary/critical care.

Do you accept COMLEX?

Yes.

Do you accept Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine graduates?

Yes, we accept both graduates from MD and DO medical schools.

Do you accept applicants applying simultaneously to specialties in addition to internal medicine during the same interview cycle?

No, candidates who simultaneously apply to additional specialties besides internal medicine during the same interview cycle will not be offered a position in the program since only serious categorical internal medicine applicants are encouraged to apply.
