FMLA

The Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) offers eligible employees up to 12 weeks of unpaid leave in a rolling 12-month period for a personal health condition; the serious health condition of a spouse, child or parent; and/or the birth, adoption or foster care placement of a child.

FMLA ensures you will be reinstated into the same job or one with substantially similar pay, duties and working conditions at the conclusion of your leave.

Leave of Absence

A leave of absence (LOA) is defined as an unpaid approved absence from work for a specified for medical, parental, military or personal reasons. An LOA can be taken in conjunction with FMLA and may not exceed 12 months.

Leave may also be requested for; amateur radio operator, assistance dog training for disabled employees, bereavement, blood donation, bone marrow and organ donation, court appearance, court-appointed special advocate (CASA) volunteer, Emergency, Foster parent, jury duty, parental, Red Cross volunteer disaster service, reserve law enforcement officer training, leave for educational activities, time off for voting, and volunteer firefighters leave, see the policy for additional details.

Leave without Pay

Leave without pay may be granted for various reasons, including family and medical leave, extended educational purposes, vacation, worker’s compensation, or personal reasons while the employee has insufficient paid leave entitlements. Special provisions for leave without pay for military, family and medical, and workers’ compensation are covered in their respective policies.

Military Leave

You may be eligible for Military Family Leave under FMLA if you have a spouse, child or parent who is on active duty or has been called to active duty status. You also may be entitled to up to 26 weeks of unpaid leave in a single 12-month period if you are the primary care giver of a covered service member who has been injured while on active duty.

Sick Leave

Sick Leave Pool

The Sick Leave Pool was established to provide benefits-eligible employees with a source for additional paid leave. It is intended to help employees and their families if a catastrophic and life-threatening illness or injury forces an employee to exhaust all leave time earned and to lose compensation. Withdrawals from the pool are considered on an individual basis and not intended to cover one’s entire recovery period.
