The University of Texas Health Science Center at Tyler hosted the first of four Pre-Health Conferences for this academic year on Wednesday, September 18, 2019, on the institution’s campus. With conferences located at the university, as well as in Pittsburg and Jacksonville, the program is aimed to reach high school students interested in careers within the healthcare industry.

The first conference hosted over 200 students from eight East Texas high schools.

The Pre-Health Conference afforded a unique opportunity for high school students to explore and learn about the multitude of health professions available and what they can do now as a high school student. Students were able to meet and speak with various health professionals, health profession advisors, graduate health students and other high school students with similar interests. The conference provided an opportunity to engage with and learn from a wide array of health professionals through multiple didactic and interactive workshops, as well as networking opportunities. Attendees had the opportunity to explore a variety of careers within the industry including medicine, public health, nursing, dentistry, veterinary medicine and agriculture health and safety.

High students are invited to join other peers with pre-health interests at the upcoming conferences as they take steps towards becoming the next generation of healthcare leaders.
