Psychology Internship

The University of Texas Health Science Center at Tyler Psychology Internship Program began its first training cohort in July 2015, after participating in the Lone Star Psychology Internship Consortium for two years. In October 2016 the program was APA accredited, with full accreditation awarded October 28, 2018.

Thank you for exploring our program. We hope you will consider UTHSCT as you search for your internship experience.  Our program is vibrant, friendly, fast-paced, and exciting. Interns have a “smorgasbord” of integrated behavioral health experiences and develop skills in both clinical and health psychology. But don’t worry, you don’t have to be an expert, because we love to train!

Internship Program Admissions

Date Program Tables are updated:  08/23/2021

Briefly describe in narrative form important information to assist potential applicants in assessing their likely fit with your program. This description must be consistent with the program’s policies on intern selection and practicum and academic preparation requirements:

Interns are selected based on a number of factors. Preferred are: a self-described interest in working in an integrated behavioral health setting, a desire to work with rural populations and the underserved, an interest in working in an academic health center, and strong essays and letters of recommendation. Other preferred factors include a doctoral program with APA accreditation and a clinical psychology and/or health or medical psychology program emphasis. Also important are applicant characteristics that lend diversity, fresh outlook, or unique skill(s) to the cohort. Completion of the dissertation proposal is required. The number of hours of experience in testing and psychotherapy, while important, are less so than the above elements.

Does the program require that applicants have received a minimum number of hours of the following at time of application? If Yes, indicate how many:
