Sports Medicine Fellowship – FAQ

When do you accept applications to the primary care sports medicine fellowship?

Applications are accepted beginning July 15 of each year. Interviews are held from the middle of August to October of each year.

Our application deadline is Oct. 1.

What are your eligibility criteria?

All applicants must be from a residency program accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education in either Family Medicine, Internal Medicine or PM&R. Applicants must be eligible to obtain a permanent license to practice medicine in the state of Texas.

Our program participates in the National Residency Matching Program. All Applicants must apply through Electronic Residency Application Service.

How do I apply?

If you meet the eligibility criteria above, and successfully submit each of the items below, you will be considered for an interview with the primary care sports medicine fellowship.

Are you ACGME accredited?

Yes, we are accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education as a one-year primary care sports medicine training program.

Will you be offering virtual interviews?

We will offer both virtual and in-person interviews.

Can I select my interview date?

We do offer flexible scheduling through ERAS where an applicant can select any available dates/slots we have remaining or can request a spot for a specific date via waitlist.

When should I arrive for my interview?

The interview day is from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. (subject to change). You will be provided a hotel room the evening before your interview and a lunch on the day of your interview.

Will I need my own transportation on interview day?

Yes. The interview will take place at a few different locations in Tyler, TX, and applicants will be responsible for their own travel between locations.

What if I cannot make it on my interview date or need to change dates?

Please notify our office either by ERAS, phone or email as soon as possible if a scheduling change needs to be made. Dates can also be changed through the ERAS scheduling system.

How many fellows does your program accept each year?

We accept two positions per year.

Do you accept COMLEX?

Yes.

Do you accept Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine graduates?

Yes, we accept both MDs and DOs.

Do you accept international medical graduate applications?

Applications will be considered by our applications committee.
