Child Abuse Practicum – The University of Texas Health Science Center at Tyler
The East Texas Trauma and Abuse Services for Kids (TASK)
program is delivering training to multiple disciplines by working collaboratively with the 13 Child Advocacy Centers in the region. Counseling, social work, nursing, and psychology practicum placements are available where students will learn and conduct evidence-based assessment and treatment with abused children. Supervision will be provided by licensed and experienced clinicians of the corresponding discipline.
Opportunities exist for developing program evaluation projects and using telehealth. We will work with you to discuss your training needs and then look to one of the 13 CACs to determine if there is an interest in taking a student. If one of the CACs wants to move forward, we will begin the interview process and then proceed to a second interview conducted by the CAC. You can anticipate that you will need to pass a criminal background check as well as a CPS background check to rule out a substantiated report or investigation of abuse of a child by an applicant.
