The faculty and staff at The University of Texas at Tyler Health Science Center’s  Center for Biomedical Research are advancing healthcare one discovery at a time. The research performed here each day plays a significant role in how diseases are treated and prevented. A new intervention for the treatment of pleural loculation called single chain urokinase plasminogen activator (scuPA) is being commercialized in anticipation of near-term clinical trial testing through a partnership with the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute of the National Institutes of Health (NIH).

New and promising intellectual property has been recently issued for protection against severe influenza-related lung disease and acute lung injury as well as pulmonary fibrosis.
