Welcome to The University of Texas at Tyler Health Science Center transitional year residency program. This residency program provides a well-rounded educational opportunity for individuals interested in pursuing advanced programs in specialties such as neurology, preventive medicine and occupational medicine. Rotations include a variety of educational experiences with a broad range of pathology, located in beautiful Tyler, Texas.

The mission of our program is to train the next generation of physicians to provide excellence in patient care, research, public health and education. Our program is structured to allow each resident to participate in a variety of clinical experiences, as well as provide exposure to research and quality improvement opportunities to cultivate their specific interests and fully prepare them for their desired career paths. This is accomplished through the collaboration of multiple clinical specialties to create a resident-focused learning environment and curriculum, mentorship through close working relationships with supervising faculty and a “hands-on” approach to learning with the appropriate degree of autonomy to develop strong clinical leaders in whichever career path they may choose to pursue.

Thank you for your interest in our program. I hope that you will take the time to see what makes our program unique and a truly exceptional place to begin your residency training.

Sincerely,

Katie Root, MD, MHA, FACP
