Local Art Organization, Owned by Neita Fran Ward, Exhibits Art at School of Medicine
TYLER, Texas (March 6, 2023) – The University of Texas at Tyler School of Medicine and Art Connection via Valerosa celebrated their partnership and a new art exhibition that will be displayed in the UT Tyler Academic building for the next year, adding color and character to the temporary home for the School of Medicine.
Art Connection via Valerosa, LLC will feature 28 pieces of artwork from the Paul Untersee Legacy Collection, installed by the Tyler Museum of Art. Paul Untersee (1920-2020), the artist, was a long-time resident of Tyler. The collection is on loan from his niece, Jacquelyn Untersee Hill.
“We are thrilled to have this stunning collection of artwork on display at the Health Science Center campus,” said Brigham Willis, MD, MEd, FAAP, the School of Medicine founding dean. “One of our values is creativity, to use imaginative approaches to solve health care problems in East Texas. Another is community, to promote a sense of fellowship with those around us. I’ve always viewed art as an important instrument in medicine to help promote observational skills in trainees.”
Art Connection via Valerosa partners with the Tyler Museum of art and local artists to highlight artwork and promote wellness. Every year, Art Connection via Valerosa rotates art featured in public and institutional spaces, including UT Tyler and TJC. For the past seven years, they’ve exhibited art in the UT Tyler Ben and Maytee Fisch College of Pharmacy.
“This is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate our partnership with the UT Tyler School of Medicine,” said Neita Fran Ward, owner and art curator of Art Connection via Valerosa. “A term I coined several years ago is ‘art lifts the spirit and feeds the soul’—and we’re excited to lift the spirits and feed the souls of the university community.”
