Undergraduate: Angelo State

Kiona was very active in community service during medical school. She was the founder of the Dance Marathon raising over $48,000 for Children’s Miracle Network in two years and as co-chair of the City of Lights Charity Ball raised over $20,000. Kiona was FMIG secretary and a Dean’s Ambassador.

Kiona spent time in a Spanish immersion program in Spain and is fluent in Spanish.

Kiona has relatives in Shreveport, and is happy to be around trees and water!

Andrea Gerla, M.D.


Andrea Gerla, M.D.

Undergraduate: Texas A&M University, Kingsville

Andrea grew up in a small Texas town and wants to practice in a rural area. During medical school Andrea volunteered at the student run clinic for medically underserved patients and at community health fairs. She went on two mission trips to Peru.

Andrea enjoys Archery.

Michelle Parker, M.D.

Undergraduate: Baylor

During medical school Michelle was very involved in community service including founding a program to organize and ship unused medical supplies to needy third world countries, co-chairing the fund raising committee for the City of Lights event, and teaching sex ed. in Lubbock high schools. Michelle participated in the Walk with A Doc program in Amarillo and the Teddy Bear clinic. She was FMIG treasurer.

Michelle wants to practice in a rural town in East Texas. She is married to JR, a firefighter.

Kim Hoang Adams

During medical school Kim volunteered at the student run clinic for uninsured patients and as an orderly at Medical Center of Arlington.

Kim was recently married to Justin.

Marita Rios


Marita Rios

Undergraduate: The University of Texas at Austin

Marita was very active in education during medical school serving as a volunteer instructor for the Texas Medical Academy, a workshop for minority teens interested in medical careers and meeting with high school students from underserved schools in San Antonio to discuss careers in health care. Marita also served as Vice President of the United Latin American Medical Students association.

Marita is fluent in Spanish and is interested in a rural practice.

Philip Ramirez

Undergraduate: Dallas Baptist University

During medical school Philip volunteered at the student run free clinic for underserved patients. He assisted with student panels and touring and interviewing med school applicants. Philip is very involved in church activities including teaching Sunday School and as a co-creator of the Marriage Encourager class.

Philip was Vice-President of the Christian Medical and Dental Association and served as a medical missionary to Russia and Mexico. He is very interested in the medical mission field. Philip is fluent in Spanish.

Philip is married to Anna, they have four children.

Clayton Brown

Undergraduate: University of Wyoming

Clay is very active in his church serving as a youth advisor to junior high students. He did a two year mission trip to Russia and is fluent in Russian.

Clay has family in east Texas and is interested in practicing full-spectrum family medicine in a rural setting. He is married to Suni and they have two sons.

Will Heise


Will Heise

University of Oklahoma College of Medicine

Undergraduate: Oklahoma State University

Will has been very active in community service including as a volunteer for the Spero project, an organization that focuses efforts on community development, and families. He also served as assistant youth director for his church and helped build a church for the Kickapoo Native American Indian tribe. Will was also involved in a book drive for Liberia, helping to send 500 boxes of books to the mission school.

Will is married to Elise, a teacher.
